14-Layer Synthesis Engine
Most astrology apps look up keywords for your placements and call it a day. Chaldea runs every chart through a 14-layer analytical pipeline — the same process a skilled Hellenistic astrologer follows, but at a depth and consistency no human could sustain across every reading.
Why Synthesis Matters
A natal chart isn't a collection of isolated placements. Mercury in Virgo means something different when it's the sect light ruler, in a day chart, conjunct the Lot of Fortune, and activated by an annual profection. Context is everything.
Most astrology software ignores this. It gives you delineations per placement — each one written in isolation. Chaldea's synthesis engine connects the dots the way a traditional astrologer would, weighing every factor against every other factor.
The 14 Layers
1. Sect Analysis
The foundation of every reading. Is this a day chart or a night chart? This single determination changes the meaning of every planet. The benefic and malefic of sect are identified, establishing the chart's fundamental polarity.
2. Ruling Chains
Starting from the Ascendant ruler, Chaldea traces the domicile rulership chain — planet to sign to ruler to sign — until it reaches a planet in its own domicile. This reveals where authority flows in the chart and which planets hold disproportionate influence.
3. Lots (Arabic Parts)
The Lot of Fortune, Lot of Spirit, Lot of Eros, Lot of Necessity, and more — calculated with proper sect-aware formulas. Each Lot is placed by sign and house, its ruler identified, and its aspects catalogued.
4. Mutual Receptions
When two planets occupy each other's domicile (or exaltation, triplicity, or bounds), they form a cooperative bond. Chaldea identifies all mutual receptions by dignity type and scores their strength.
5. Bonification & Maltreatment
Which planets are helped by benefics? Which are harmed by malefics? Chaldea examines aspects, co-presence, and enclosure to determine which planets are bonified (supported) and which are maltreated (afflicted).
6. Angular Analysis
Planets in angular houses (1st, 4th, 7th, 10th) are the most powerful and visible. Succedent planets are moderately effective. Cadent planets are weakened. Chaldea scores every planet's angularity and adjusts its weight accordingly.
7. House Connections
When a planet rules one house and occupies another, it creates a bridge between those life topics. Chaldea maps all house connections and identifies the most significant links — like a 7th house ruler in the 10th connecting partnership to career.
8. Aspect Analysis
Whole-sign aspects (sextile, square, trine, opposition) plus degree-based aspects with orbs. Chaldea distinguishes applying from separating aspects, dexter from sinister, and overcoming aspects — all concepts from the traditional toolkit.
9. Element & Modal Balance
The distribution of planets across fire, earth, air, and water — and across cardinal, fixed, and mutable signs. Imbalances reveal temperamental tendencies and gaps in the native's approach to life.
10. Essential Dignities
Domicile, exaltation, triplicity, bounds (terms), and decan — the five levels of essential dignity. Each planet is scored across all five, revealing whether it has the resources to fulfill its significations.
11. Configurations
Stelliums, T-squares, grand trines, grand crosses, yods — Chaldea identifies major configurations and interprets them within the Hellenistic framework, not the modern cookbook approach.
12. Thematic Clustering
After analyzing individual factors, the engine identifies recurring themes. If multiple layers point to the same life area — say, career prominence through angularity, ruling chains, and Lot placement — that theme gets elevated and emphasized.
13. Tension Mapping
Not every chart factor agrees. Chaldea identifies internal contradictions — a planet that's essentially dignified but accidentally debilitated, or a benefic that rules a difficult house. These tensions are flagged and explained, not smoothed over.
14. Weight Scoring
Every factor from layers 1–13 receives a weighted score. The engine then ranks which factors are most significant for this specific chart. Not every chart emphasizes the same things — and Chaldea's scoring reflects that.
The Result
What comes out the other end isn't a list of placements with canned descriptions. It's a synthesized interpretation — a reading where every statement accounts for multiple factors, where contradictions are acknowledged, and where the most important themes rise to the top.
